Archaeological site of Mesimvria Zoni, Thrace
The archaeological site is located about twenty kilometers away from Alexandroupolis at the west side of the city, where the visitors may see the ruins of an ancient Thracian Greek city . The first signs of habitation in the area are mentioned in the 7th century BC. Due to the findings, this archaeological site is considered to be one of the most important in the area. The experts, among others , have revealed the Sanctuary of the goddess Demeter, some ancient public buildings and houses as well as a large part of the city’s fortress. Particular color in the archaeological area gives the sea view gazing the island of Samothraki.
Ο αρχαιολογικός χώρος βρίσκεται είκοσι περίπου χιλιόμετρα δυτικά της Αλεξανδρούπολης. Στο χώρο ο επισκέπτης βλέπει τα ερείπια από μια ελληνική πόλη της Θράκης. Οι πρώτες ενδείξεις για κατοίκηση στην περιοχή ανάγονται από τους ειδικούς στον 7ο πΧ αιώνα. Λόγω των ευρημάτων που βρέθηκαν, ο αρχαιολογικός αυτός χώρος θεωρείται ως ένας από τους πιο σημαντικούς χώρους της περιοχής. Έχουν αποκαλυφθεί ανάμεσα στα άλλα, Ιερό της θεάς Δήμητρας, δημόσια κτίρια αλλά και οικίες, καθώς και ένα μεγάλο μέρος των τειχών. Ιδιαίτερο χρώμα στον αρχαιολογικό χώρο δίνει η θέα προς τη θάλασσα και το νησί της Σαμοθράκης.
